My Favorite Things to do in while in Korea

Last month, I got the chance to go to one of my favorite places in the world, Seoul South Korea. I don’t get to visit South Korea very often because flying there is usually so expensive and would take forever. But thanks to Air Canada’s new international flights, I got to fly Premium Economy all the way there with just one seamless connection in Vancouver. Now maybe I’ll get to visit more often because there are still so many other places I want to see and things I want to do! These are just a few of my favorites from this trip. If you’ve been to Seoul comment and let me know what I should check out next time I visit. If you haven’t, I definitely recommend adding it to your bucket list!

Eating the Delicious Food

Korean food is absolutely delightful! And there’s so much food; a typical Korean meal comes with seven or eight separate “small” dishes! For just one person!! All the food I had on this trip was flavorful and healthy and, as far as I’m concerned, some of the best food in the world.  From Korean BBQ to Kimchi to bibimbaps, I could eat Korean Food every day for the rest of my life and be very happy.

(Fun fact: Kimchi became so popular in South Korea because they discovered it helps prevent bird flu! Now they serve it with literally every meal)

Learning about Seoul’s History

On this trip I got to go visit the Changdeokgung Palace, which is one of the Five Grand Palaces of Seoul. Next time I come when I have a  little more time, I want to do a tour of all five of the palaces because this one was so amazing. The palace is an official UNESCO World Heritage Site and the only way to see it is with a guided tour so I got to learn so much of the history of the Palace and the old Kingdom. There was even a “secret garden”, a beautiful garden where the royal family used to escape to relax.

Seeing the City at Night

Sightseeing is always one of my favorite things to do when I travel. On this trip I got to see the city from the N Seoul Tower, an observation deck at the highest point in Seoul. After taking a cable car up to the top, we got to see panoramic views of the entire city lit up at nighttime. It was so amazing and you could really tell how big the city was, like New York on steroids!

Exploring the City

In Seoul, it’s possible to travel between the ancient and the modern, simply by crossing the street. It’s a place where palaces and ancient walls are right next to skyscrapers and ultra modern architecture. There are even hiking trails and parks right in the middle of the city! Seoul is a massive city of over 25 million people and driving around to see everything is almost impossible, so one of my favorite things to do on this trip was ride around on my skateboard to explore and get to see all these awesome things.
